Dear friends,

We are writing to ask for participation from the national centres: the UNIMA general secretariat is organising this year's activities; they won't happen without your support and cooperation.

The UNIMA World Puppetry Day (WPD): As you know, this is celebrated on March 21st. Each year, UNIMA asks someone important to write a message for us. This year, it is the renowned African artist living in the Ivory Coast: Werewere-Liking Gnepo. As well as this message, this year for the first time we have proposed that national centres use a common poster for the celebrations. This poster has been designed by the Spanish artist Joan Baixas who celebrates 50 years of professional puppetry activity this year. We also have a slogan that reflects our art and organization perfectly: 'Together, we create the movement'.

We are planning to create a shared video made up of contributions from national centres: in order to do this, we would like you to film very simple videos telling the slogan: 'Together, we create the movement'. These should be in all languages and dialects of our national centres. The video should then be uploaded to the UNIMA website on the dedicated page: http://www.unima.org/wpd. From these short films, we'll create a video montage with all of the material and disseminate it widely during the WPD.

We have also prepared a “Road Book” which is attached to this email. The purpose of this is to assist centres which have never been involved in the organisation of activities for World Puppetry Day before. In it, we explain what WPD is, what you could do, what we would like you to do this year, what will be happening in Charleville this year, etc. We hope it will be useful and as usual we are at your disposal for any doubts or questions.

Still about WPD, we are hoping for this day to become official in 2019 and remind you of the letters we asked you to write in support of the United Nations officially declaring the 21st March World Puppetry Day. We remind you how to do and who to address those letters this in the “Road Book”.

We remind you that the UNIMA Council Meeting will take place this year in Bochum (Germany) on the 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th May. We need you full-fill online the report of your national centre in English, French and Spanish by 18th of March this year to this page: http://www.unima.org/en/the-national-ce ... ers-report

This is also the opportunity to remind you that if you want to vote you must have your membership fees paid up to date. This payment needs to be done before March 31st each year.

Registration for the Council Meeting has opened, and we invite you to register as soon as possible to avoid any problems with accommodation. Don’t forget that the FIDENA festival is also celebrating its 60th anniversary and there will probably be many visitors this year!!

We are attaching to this mail the open call for young authors for the project that UNIMA international is organizing. Please disseminate it widely amongst your members, associates, other organizations and media; any that could be interested in this open call.

A few weeks ago, you received the first UNIMA newsletter. We would like to publish this regularly and need you to enter your news and information online. As one of our most important aims is to maintain good communication between us we need you to participate in this. If we do not receive your news, we cannot share it!

As always, I am and we are, here for you.

With all my friendship,

Idoya Otegui,
General Secretary
